Three contrasting movements, each to be played on a different trombone: Sorrow moves in wide waves (btb.), River rising–flood (ttb.), All things move toward the light (atb.). Based on the poem Paean to Place by Lorinne Neidecker, this composition confronts the fear, sorrow, and eventually rebuilding that accompanied the June 2008 floods in the midwest. Solo writing for trombone is very difficult, including rapid scalar passages and extended ranges on all three horns. Orchestral parts available for rental, see item 3016.

A four movement composition for advanced bands based on Melville’s novel Moby Dick. The first movement, Seven Sea Septets is a set of movements for a unique wind ensemble of Fl/Picc, Ob, Cl/BsCl, Alto Sax, Hrn, Tbn, Tba. Each is written in a different mode and is a sketch about life near the Atlantic (specifically, in Old Orchard Beach, Maine). The movements vary in difficulty, but the piece as a whole is very challenging and depends on seven versatile and sensitive musicians.
